Welcome

I'm Laura. I am female, 31, a gamer, a bookworm, a knitter, a spinner, a tatter, pierced, tattooed, musical, vehemently geeky and occasionally ineptly artistic.

My ball winder arrived yesterday! Dan needed to pre-bowl as he'll be away this weekend, so that gave me a good couple of quiet hours after the raid to play with it.

I set it up in the craft room spare bedroom and unwound my beautiful skein of Technicolor Kiss. After petting it for a few minutes (you would too, don't lie), I got down to the business of winding my first yarn ball.

In unrelated news, I have discovered why most people who do this sort of thing also own a swift.

All things considered, winding it straight from the skein laid out on the adjacent bed wasn't too difficult once I got started, and actually went fairly quickly. After about two hours, I had two nice-looking balls o' yarn! The yarn is beautifully dyed, supremely soft and squishy, and has a halo sufficiently wispy as to give me a moment's pause. (I admit to looking up projects made with the very similar KidSilk Haze on Ravelry, just to make sure the halo-y bits wouldn't felt togther and obscure the lace pattern entirely.)

Today I took a good hard look at the Carnival Glass directions and charts, and contrasted them with what I thought I knew about triangle shawl charts. Shall we just say "ERROR: Data Type Mismatch"? But, I've looked at them again and again and am pretty sure that I've got a handle on this.

I sure hope so. Frogging mohair, from the sound of it, is none too easy.

I have a couple of hours to kill tonight between work and when I have to be in Lindenwood for the Sleeping Beauty ballet, so I'll probably spend some quality time in Starbucks and see how far I can get on the first chart. I'm excited!

In actually unrelated news, Scientists can now extract images directly from your brain. Didn't we just see this on Fringe?

It's 970 yards of sticky laceweight!

But yeah, it would have been faster. I'm resisting only because I need to have an answer to "what do you want for your birthday?"

Internet is written with the capital letter in a sentence, by the way. And hundredths are written not with a point but with a comma. This is according to the standard. And actually everything is very good..!!
